Begin with photographic style
Review several complete galleries where possible, not only a selection of standout images. Look at indoor, outdoor, daytime and evening work. Consider whether you prefer natural documentary coverage, a more directed editorial approach, traditional group photographs or a mixture.
The right style is the one you will still value after current trends have changed.
Confirm the coverage period
Ask for exact start and finish times or a clear description of the milestones included. Preparation, ceremony, group photographs, speeches, first dance and evening reception can require very different lengths of coverage.

Understand what will be delivered
Ask how many edited images are normally delivered, but avoid treating a larger number as an automatic sign of quality. Clarify the file format, resolution, colour and black-and-white mix, online gallery access and expected delivery period.
If prints, albums or USB products are included, confirm sizes, page counts, the design process and delivery costs.
Ask about editing
Standard editing normally includes colour, exposure and consistency. Detailed retouching, object removal or major alterations may be a separate service. Ask what the package includes and whether you can request specific changes.
Clarify image use and privacy
The photographer normally retains copyright unless the contract says otherwise. Customers are often granted personal-use printing and sharing rights. Ask whether the supplier may use images in their portfolio, social media or advertising, and how you can communicate privacy preferences.
Do not assume an online gallery is private. Check whether it uses a password, how long it remains available and whether downloads can be restricted.
Review backup arrangements
Ask about backup cameras, duplicate memory cards, secure file backups and contingency arrangements if the photographer becomes ill. No plan removes every risk, but a professional process reduces avoidable points of failure.
Compare the total price
Check travel, accommodation, additional hours, second photographers, albums, prints and delivery charges. Compare the complete service you expect to buy rather than only the starting figure.
